We're currently at 245 players which is 35 teams exactly.. I was hoping to get to 40 teams (280 players.) so i'm going to leave the registration open until Friday night. Then we'll use the weekend to organize the teams and have the brackets created.

I need you (the community) to help spread the word. Send the thread/website out to all of your friends.

_________________________________

Also need your input quickly, as far as CA/NY/TX etc. with the large amount of players. How should we pick the captains?.. Medics, top players from each state, or leave it up to the organizers of the tournament to create fair teams? Let me know.

And what kind of format should we do for the tourney? Double elimination? Or a mini season?

I'd personally say top players from each state should draft teams. The more players that the person is familiar with, the better off they are selecting players.

Also where's our hawaiians? Goldy and fox step up.

I agree with the top players being captains personally. Everyone thinks CA will be the heavy favorites but I really don't think so. If you took the top 6 players from CA then maybe. But with the draft, I believe the smaller states that have the best lineup will be the ones to win. I guess we'll find out lol

I think having either top players or medics being captains is a good idea. Also, it should be restricted to one invite player per team until necessary, just to we don't have invite buds stacking teams to win. It's supposed to be fun for everybody, there's nothing at stake.

Oh, and is it just me, or is extv down?

I vote for a mini-season as opposed to double elimination. Gives teams more of a chance to make adjustments/improvements. Also, it blows when a team happens to meet 2 really good teams in a row off the bat if it is double elimination.

Personally I think we need to have a "mini-season."

We have to think about the states with playing fields of an odd number of members. States with more than enough players for one team but not quite enough for two teams, and so forth. PA, for example, has 14 players signed up--that's two teams plus two extras. We need to have a generous amount of matches to ensure that everybody gets a chance to rotate through the roster and play at least once. Make sense?

The states with odd numbers like 16 players (PA) there will be 2 captains.. 7 players to each team. The 2 leftover will go to another state in their region that doesn't have enough members. etc.

There's going to be massive issues with player availability if you don't make the teams large enough.

I used the signup form on the extv site, then I immediately viewed the player list and I did not find myself listed. Does the page only update periodically?

States with a lot of players should have back-ups, hell each state should have some just to be safe. I think the best player from CA, NY, TX should captain up and pick five people while the others can be backups? Majority vote for those captains though? For California I'm going with either enigma or vhalin.

No.

We didn't sign up to be backups, we signed up to play TF2. Design a system that GUARANTEES everybody some playtime. This is the only fair way to do it.

We want to see which state is the best. So imo it should just be the top 6 players from each state and that's it. There can be a bigger tournament later.

Yes, I thought this was the point of this "Battle of the States".

You're absolutely right. We want to see which state comes out on top as a whole, not which state has the best six players. When a state is made up of more than six interested people, they should all get the chance to play and represent their hometown.

If we take the best 6 from each state it's just going to be like that ESEA All-Stars crap again.

I like clockwork more and more everyday, it's like clockwork baby woooo

States with a lot of players will still be very good and competitive, it'll be drafted by captains. States deeper in talent will be better all around. In a perfect world everyone would be able to play.. but the world isn't perfect. I'll do my best to make it possible but inevitably it's up to the captains to get their backups in (for easier matches) etc.

Backups are kind of essential here... 8 or 9 per roster should be enough. Honestly it won't be too much of an issue to use a backup here, as I doubt these state teams will be putting in as many scrims to get acquainted as ESEA teams do. It's about some bragging rights, sure, but it's also about having fun, and playing with some new people. More like PUG teams, IMO.

As far as captains go, this is what i've been brainstorming up so far..

Captains:

CA: vhalin, weeble, decimate, and sash.
NJ: clockwork, bigac
NY: tragic, Rick
Ontario: grillz, tri
PA: boulder, namlay
British Colombia/Saskatchewan/Quebec merged captains: blaze, heero
