I just can't do it. I can kill scouts and airshot them like nobodies business but I just can't shoot those damn flying soldiers. What's the trick? I've tried different techniques from tracking, to tracking with my eyes and then flicking ( crosshair doesn't follow target ), i've tried waiting til the last minute to shoot but i can't seem to do it. How do you guys consistently airshot soldiers? This is by far my weakest ability right now. Please help!

Depends on where they're jumping from. If he jumps at you from a higher terrain / even terrain it's more about judging and shooting in the direction they're turning while making sure you don't give them extra airtime by shooting them. But as Lange said, it's probably better to wait for them to fall to the ground so that you can be aware if his jump is a distraction. If they jump from lower ground it's just tracking them and shooting at the last possible second, or predicting their strafe and who they're bombing. |

depends when u like to hit them.. easier to wait til they start to fall and just aim about 1/4th a characters body length below.. should hit their shins if done right. speed is also a variable at times in which u wanna lengthen the distance a bit... most everything else in preemptive or reflex. http://steamcommunity.com/id/eulogy_/

repetition. also, airshotting being your weakest ability is a good thing; it's the least important ability |

i think endif is bad pratice.. its box strafes (not used much in comp) and when u generally go for an airshot u dont have that ammount of time to calculate it nor should u ever stare someone down after u pop them up really. tr_airshot is good practice and i even liked tr_rocket_shooting2 for the little pop shots marma is also right that its not an important skill to have, cool and all but not a necessity http://steamcommunity.com/id/eulogy_/

Yeah, its dumb when you corner camp someone because they cannot strafe really, but the fact that you're constantly aiming in the air really helps with "muscle memory". Whenever I see anyone in the air in-game, I just imagine I'm in the endif zone and NO ONE WILL GET OUT ALIVE edit: endif helps me with knowing how fast projectiles move in the air and how much you need to lead someone depending on their distance from the ground. Something like tr_airshot is probably better for practical purposes but to each his own edit2: The most important use out of airshots is blocking ubered soldiers, IMO. Its huge if you can deny that ubered soldier jumping through badlands choke |

makes sense puff.. i can respect it :3 bored out of my mind at work atm so im skimming through some posts edit: we forgot about tr_walkway.. u can set them to jump like tr_airshot. shoot them off the decline to launch them past u for over the shoulder shots (my favorite reflex practice) and i usually do walkway once a week for like 20 mins or so to re-calibrate myself if that makes sense http://steamcommunity.com/id/eulogy_/

yo you might not believe this but you should actually just predict their movement and then fire |

The reason I asked this question is because all soldiers have to do is jump my med and i can never deny them. I also play tr_walkway but after awhile it is so predictable i'm hitting 3 airshots on every target. Maybe if there can be a trigger to make them strafe in a S formation. |

i ain't no soldier or no intellectual but i figure if the combos getting jumped i'd say its more about positioning than actually hitting the airshots.. if you guys are in the right spot as a combo, on most maps, jumpers are just suicides that you can clean up after they've hit the ground demoman |

dont depend on airshots, use your shotgun to get guaranteed damage on them in the air, and shoot where they are going to land to get guaranteed damage on them on the ground. |

The problem with that is the fact that you would have to see the roamer and predict he's going to jump, which, if the roamer has any braincells (that's a lot to ask for a roamer, I know), won't happen. Unless you got like sick nerd baller reflexes and can switch to shotgun and stop him mid air lightning fast. (I'm a roamer myself, so don't get upset about the braincells comment plz) |

No, he's right about one part. You should be able to finish off the solly right after he hits the ground if you guys are focus firing him. If you do it correctly, roamers should be decimated at middle by scouts. And elsewhere, if you see it coming, and your med still dies? L2surf. |

that one feels so good, but makes me so sad when i realize its 0 dmg. also i feel like an asshole everytime i do it because every soldier ever jumps from the same exact spot, so its easy to just prefire it and run like hell. I WANT THE FRAGVID MATERIAL. also, a roamer on a successful bomb in should have ONE "easy" rocket. that's the one where he's directly above your medic, and hes just gonna shoot the ground. your medic should be surfing that one, you clean up the roamer (YOUR TURN TO SHOOT THE GROUND, IT HAS NOW COME FULL CIRCLE), and now you're a man up with your med still alive. gogo. |

the endif arena produces air shots that are not only unrealistic but pretty worthless in comp. i feel like the best ways to practice air shots in mge are in ammomod (popup airshots/directs/juggling) or on snakewater (airshot defense as they're rjing up) xen. blinK |

that tr_rocket_shooting2 map, they won't be strafing but it will give you a idea of how and where to shoot ur rockets depending on how high they go. also if you know your not competent of hitting the airshot, just use ur shotty, it denies them acceleration and there target they jumped for will be farther away |

Snakewater is better imo because you can clearly see where they're coming from every time so it's better practice for air shotting. Spire is good too but a lot of times you don't know where they spawned and are jumping from. Also I mostly flick my air shots from muscle memory. If it's a really high up pop or a slow moving pop up you might have enough time to line it up but most of the time you need to flick. xen. blinK |
