Over the course of this past weekend, the NA Newbie Mix group has been picking up more and more steam. Since the ESEA LAN finals, we have seen an increase of over 100 new guys in the group, and as of right now there are around 600 people total. While this number was a little scary for me, it’s also super exciting - 600 players means the possibility of 100 new teams, which is a mind-blowing figure.

So, to compensate for all these new players, we need more resources and help from members of the community. If you have a server that doesn’t get used during the weekend why not offer it up for new guys to play on? Also, we need some more coaches to help show the new guys around. If your team isn’t scrimming one night and you’re bored, instead of playing DOTA2, you could run a mix and be a real hero to the community.

We have a chance right now to expand the competitive community, and we could potentially double the playerbase if we put in the effort. These new players have shown an interest in playing competitive TF2, and now it’s our job to show them what we love about this game. The ball is in our court. If we want more sponsors in TF2, we need more players, and this is a great opportunity to bring those players in.

In addition I've been picking up the players that are a little past the "this is a rollout" or "this is a roamer" phase and hold PUGs like 4-5 times a week with a lot of coaches (like giffy and monster and eulogy). the faster we get newbies playing the format the faster we can make self sufficient pug groups and teams. I know teams and networks that have come of the newbie mix (probably responsible for a number of UGC 6s teams), and it really helps just to put new players with each other. The fact that they can discuss competitive tf2 with coaches that know the game is just the icing on the cake for me.

Running newbie mixes, please message me to coach.

Bumping because Giffy asked me to. Good stuff.

Edit: Okay, he's mad because I was supposed to say something about the group. I swear he didn't beg me to bump.

This is awesome. I think with some proper organization this is exactly what the community needs. I will support this in any way I can.

I don't have any servers, but I could show any aspiring roamers the basics.

Look man, we held those *after* the matches were over. lol, I can't be the only one who wanted to play really badly after watching those finals.

I'm away on vacation at the moment, but I could probably provide a spare server at the very least. I'm not very familiar with this group since I took a short break from tf2. Do you guys have a website or forums or anything? Could be helpful to get all those players communicating with eachother, eventually forming teams. Or maybe there could just be a sub forum on this site.

I think server wise we're usually good (with one or two), just having more coaches to answer questions would be good though.

Giffy you didn't make the google doc editable btw! Anyway the newbie mix is great and has already spawned a low level pug group and about 3 teams if people can help then they should this is making a difference.

Just for the record, the PUGs I organize aren't necessarily "Newbie Mixes." They are similar, but I don't market to brand new players to 6s the way Giffy's group does.

threads like these should be shown to sponsors thinking of picking up a tf2 team. it shows how the community can come together as one to get things done. its cool how much support there is for newer competitive players.
