Hey Shwan, Im not sure what you are talking about. I didn't have any troll of any sort. People were professional with me and treated me great. Yes, one of my friends said "oh its a girl" (TWSS), but he was kidding. Either way, I dont mind the banter, but yes when I do help out I would like to put aside the gender difference thing.

If I could do more of the newbie mixes, I would do it in a heart-beat. I actually really enjoyed doing it.

I'm talking about when there were a bunch of people waiting to get into a game then realized you were female then didn't shut up making it close to impossible to organize anything. Now that I wrote that I can see why this was more annoying to me than you.

ALSO

I think part of the problem (freakin addressed this) is that with all these new people and the new system of organizing it's simply not possible to balance teams, which is why freakin may have enjoyed the past mixes more because back then I was purposely balancing the teams and screening players.

Sorry that you felt overwhelmed Shwan. But I can honestly say that I had a fun time and I would be more than happy to help you out. I hope that me just being a girl would not prevent people learning a fun game. I feel I have a strong grip on tf2 and have a lot to offer the community. [On top of that I am not a stranger to leading people-- my team, school projects, and management positions.]

HOWEVER, in the future if you want to avoid certain situations that made you feel uncomfortable/out of control, feel free to talk to me so we can avoid those things if you guys allow me to help out.

To prevent people from talking over whoevever is organizing, set them as priority speaker so everyone else can't talk over them.

glad to hear that the 10 people screaming and begging for your attention didn't put you off to the newbie mix, we need more people like you who are willing to help out in big ways.

That was done it's a really good idea that doesn't work as well as you would think. Next time I think we will just mute people more.

seriously this newbie mix shit is fun as hell even if you're a coach.
Honestly, some of these guys could use every little bit of info you could give em so don't think every coach has to be in invite.

btw, i would suggest having some of these on the weekdays/scrimdays for newbies still looking for teams or newbies who are still trying to learn the game. If no one else will organize them on the weekdays, I'm teamless right now and I wouldn't mind throwing my time out helping these guys.

THAT WOULD BE AMAZING. Everyone has been asking me for this (since I run that PUG group that came out of the newbie mix). If you could get admin from giffy (or whoever) and a server going, the mumble is still empty all the time so you could easily hold mixes. Please do this.

so much respect for you guys right now. May I suggest you run a check on your mentors though before actually letting them mentor? I feel like we shouldn't be letting someone who doesn't have a good understanding of the game teach newer players bad habits that will handicap them? I'm not trying to bring down anyone who's trying to mentor. I just want the newer players to come in on their own feet, not getting destroyed at the bottom of open because they don't know any better than what we're showing them.

When I run the mixes I am very strict about who mentors.

I was able to play/mentor in this pug group last night and I must say I really enjoyed it. A lot of the new players are really eager to learn and they ask a lot of good questions. Just as a fair warning to anyone wanting to mentor make sure to not go balls to the wall and just carry your team. They wont learn from that! I would suggest playing pocket and leading pushes and explain why you are pushing and so on. I would definitely mentor again.

Last pug I played on was pretty awesome. 5-4 game, dead even. I play tf2 to have games like that.

On the mentors, I agree with kapoww; however it is not just about how much the mentor knows, but how much they share. For me personally, m0nster was god tier just because he would give the team a game plan before each match. So everyone knew(or should know) what their tasks were.

Then you have other mentors that just hop on, carry the team, kinda help with calls and the leave. Or others that improve a little by giving feedback at the end, but that doesn't do much either. If you mentor, don't be afraid of correcting calls from the newer players, and letting them know how they could play better even during the match. It is hard to do it during a game, but that is when the feedback has the greatest impact.
