Is there a resource hub for the newbie mix? I had no classes today and used that time to crank out video map overviews with area names for just about every one in the rotation this season plus a few more and am wondering where to upload them.

I mean, they're not really anything too impressive; it's just me flying around in freeform spectator mode going through each area of a map and introducing people to the commonly-used terminology used to describe specific areas of a map.

I don't really talk about strategy or anything; I figured that would be a topic for another day, especially considering those sorts of videos take some serious preparing and would probably last anywhere from 20 minutes to half an hour. I could probably do those videos over this weekend, provided I jot down some notes over the next few days.

The ones that I did today are roughly 4-7 minutes long and are meant to help people be more familiar with maps so that voice comms are easier and smoother.

Yeah but that's a great thing. I'd imagine if nothing else they could link them from the steam group. You got a youtube?

What I would love if someone would do, is go through maps and discuss the position of combo and flank throughout each point, both for defending and pushing.

I think that would help new players 1000 times more than just the names of areas(even though its great that you did it frey)

Thanks for making these vids frey. A bunch of people i have noticed have never really played 6v6 and get confused real quick when they're thrown in a game and have to figure out what everybody is talking about. It would be nice for people who want to get some knowledge beforehand to be able to do that.

Also hard to talk about positioning and strategy if they have no idea what you're referring too.

That problem will always be there. It's easy enough to look up like a gotfrag article or competitive TF2 wiki and learn it on their own, but sometimes newbies need a friendly comp. environment to see how little they know without being discouraged.

Running newbie mixes, please message me to coach.

yeah, obviously, but like I said, those kinds of videos take lots of preparation and would take about an hour each to record. I'll start working on those this weekend.

Have you ever watched Mr. Bitter's 10 weeks with the pros? Is an sc2 series of videos.

Anyway, you could do something similar to that. You could have one "pro" guest each week and you can both go over a map and take as long as it needs. And if the vods are too large just throw them into blip.tv or something. Hell, I am sure even EXTV would let you upload them on their channel.

Hey guys, how's everything? I would love to be a mentor for 6v6 newbies because I have previous 6's TF2 experience. James, let me in!

Just wanted to say I had a fun time helping out last night. Great turnout again, it's very cool to see all these new players wanting to get into comp play. Some really good talent and positive attitudes out there too. Props to Giffy for organizing last night.

Dear anyone who is higher than low+: Don't join the newbie mixes just so you can DM others. There are DM servers for that. And if you wanna practice your class or whatever, then go find a fucking scrim at your own skill level.

The only people who are not newbies playing on mixes are the mentors. Too many mixes have been ruined because of players like this

there was a discussion about low players and newbiemixes and i think the verdict was it's good to have a good MIX of newbs, low players, and mentors. there might be too many low players looking for pugs that aren't tf2.pug.na. vick's group is good for that http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Vickslowpug

low players should add vick to ask for an invite i guess

I agree with this. I have seen way too many players in the mixes with too much experience playing. I understand if you get fatkidded in pug.na or whatever but that doesn't mean you should turn up to the mixes so you can show how good you are against people who just started playing 6v6. You guys should organize your own pugs with people of your own skill level. The newbie mix is here for brand new players trying to learn a good foundation. The other problem that these players bring is that they think they are actually better than what they really are, so they try to instruct the newbies and prevent the mentors from doing thier job. This has caused many headaches for some of the mentors. The good news is that we have been working on ideas to fix this and hopefully we will be able to start implementing it soon.

someone should make a frag video featuring only clips from newbies in the mixes (not mentors), it could serve as an attraction for more players to join (could post it on spuf or reddit or whatevs)

Are you teaching them to bomb whenever they're the slightest bit mad and throw away the whole game? Seems to be working fine for you.

If you think you can coach better then by all means come in and help instead of being an asshole and calling out someone who has been helping out a bunch.
