none of my irl friends have played guild wars either, which is probably why i never tried it out when it first came out. hopefully some tf2 people will play with me, especially considering how none of my irl friends play any computer games anymore ._.

my main questions are if there are skill resets or will you be stuck with however you build your character permanently, if skill builds matter a lot (or if i can build a character however i want - i kind of want to be a pet orientated ranger), and is the microtransactions in this game going to be anywhere near as chaotic as the tf2 hat economy

You can change your skill build freely outside of combat.

sounds good.

if the WvWvW is accessible and people want to do that, i'll get my friends and we'll hop on mumble or something and we'll beast people.

You can change your skill build freely outside of combat.

You can also change your weapons during combat, which in turn changes your skills. I'm pretty certain there will be WvW in the beta, I've seen a lot of footage from events before where there was WvW.

I prepurchased the game, add me to steam if you're playing, or if you're already on my friends list message me - I'd like to have a GW2 group on steam friends.

lmao I played the TERA open beta, and every character looks like it just came out of the weirdest anime porno. There were furrys, little girls, and demon sluts. EVERYWHERE.

CombatToast would love it.

also i think there will be a number of different microtransaction things such as buying additional character slots, expansions, etc.

That's right, the micro transaction currency is Gems, and you don't need to pay real money for them if you don't want to. They are able to be traded in-game for their current value in gold. So you can buy gems with real money to get things in the shop or to buy more gold, or alternatively use your in-game gold to get gems.

Everyone has access to everything in the game, so nobody will be limited by choosing not to pay extra. When you buy Guild Wars 2 you get a complete game with 100% available content.

Also, feel free to add me if you wanna play GW2 with me.

Depends on how the beta weekends go. If well, couple months, if stuff needs more work, more than that.

They've confirmed that it will be released this year. Nothing else is definite, but it seems like they're going for a summer release. However, considering up until now they've just said "When it's ready", I'm not holding my breath.

Just kidding, I've been holding my breath for 5 years.

Tera is pretty damn fun, i got up to lvl 31 in OB and the PVP started to get really good.

GW2 does look pretty insane - NCsoft has always made the best MMO's in my opinion. However, they suck at policing their servers (i.e. chinese farmers fucking EVERYWHERE), and always seem to lack great end game content. I loved Lineage 2 when it first came out..but every expansion they made felt exactly like the last...literally half the servers died after chronicle 3 in 2007. GW2 could totally turn this around though...looks to be a very deep game.

I agree, hopefully the new Gems system eradicates the gold sellers and farmers since there's really no need for them because the function they served is now built into the game for the most part.

As for end game content, it seems like they solved that problem with ridiculously enormous elder dragons and massive dungeons :D

their fanart looks cool :3
since i have never played guild wars, the only thing i've seen is the promo videos and fan art

they remind me of elves
and since i always play archers/rangers and elves are always good archers i always end up playing them

I feel like a lot of people are hating on GW2 because there are so many videos with terrible gameplay like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCKnoyYd7oo&hd=1 and people just assume it's another WoW clone dumbed down with only 10 skills usable at a time which is what I thought about it too initially when I played TERA. Tera's combat isn't good compared to other action type games that it's similar to Ninja Gaiden, other hack'n slash action games or fighting games in general. It's just too slow paced. Comparatively, GW2 offers the same action combat but differently, most notably without animation rooting. It's a hybrid between mouse target and the action based gameplay that Tera has. The mouse target I don't mind since most action games have targeting systems anyway, but the action part of it can't really be seen unless you watch videos of really good players. Here's my favourite example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR0-S9SQCW4&hd=1
at 3:20 you can see the level 6 I think warrior fights an elite monster that is level 11 and kills him without getting hit once. If he did, it would probably have 1 shot him. A level 11 guardian tries to help him out and tank damage and then dies. Skill based combat proven. Another really great video that shows the devs playing, they are really good at the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYXpLDcfkdY&hd=1
PvE can be difficult as one of the devs points out, as he dies to one hit from a monster his own level. In Tera, at level 30 I could easily take 10+ enemies five levels higher then me, take multiple hits from them and not die as a leather armour class. Some really great PvP at 22:50, mesmers look really fun to play, and hard to use. From what I've heard a lot of people are complaining they do little damage, but this is probably due to how you need to use your clones perfectly and stay at optimal range if you want to dps well don't just hurr spam clones and let them attack enemy while running close up with your greatsword as I've seen in almost every other mesmer video.

I already prepurchased and will be playing in the beta next week. Kind of hoping it releases before Diablo 3 because I know that I'll buy D3 ASAP if it's not out yet.

Attractive females, armour guaranteed to look awesome, and the start of their storyline reminds me of The Matrix.

There are no roles. You can spec to do anything as any class. That's one of the main shticks of GW2. Every profession has a self heal.

Anyone who wants to download the 15GB ahead of time, here's a link to the old launcher, which will now delete your old beta (if you played in it) and redownload the new launcher + new client:

turtsmcgurts wrote:

Every class can do every role (Control/Support/Damage), they just have different mechanics.

Warrior: Has an adrenaline bar. Think super meter from a fighting game. When filled by doing damage he can do a super attack.
Thief: Stealth + stealing.
Mesmer: Illusions + you can do crazy things to those illusions.
Elementalist: Instead of 2 weapon sets, has 4 elements to swap between.
Guardian: Has 3 passive abilities that can be activated for a bonus at the loss of the passive. Has summoned weapons.
Necromancer: Minions and a special form bar which you can use to become stronger at the expense of a weaker bar upon being knocked out.
Ranger: Crazy pet system.
Engineer: He can equip kits and turrets which changes his gameplay. He has a Flamethrower kit that gives him an Airblast. Wonder where they got that from.

e:
a bit more in-depth, that doesn't mean every class does each role the same way though, ie here's a more support focused Warrior vs a more support focused Guardian
