I just don't understand why anyone would need to or want to know who is or isn't gay in the community. Sexuality is no ones business but one's own. If they want to express it, then they will express it. If they don't want to, let it be. Requesting to know everyone's sexual orientation just seems like a pointless endeavor.

From my personal standpoint I feel as though its a harmless question to ask.
Back when I was in high school it was pretty stressfull knowing you were different from the other kids. It was even more stressfull because finding someone to talk to about it was like betting your teenager years away. You could either end up with an ok experience or get shit untill you can move away or something. Whats the harm in knowing if a few other people are like you and maybe experienced the same things you did? If they don't feel comfortable talking about it they won't. It's pretty simple

A better way to ask that question would be rate yourself on the Kinsey scale.

The problem with this thread is that the only people that will talk are the already "outed" people in this community. Furthermore, they'll all likely be 4+ on the Kinsley scale, as people that are/identify as/behave/dress straight but watch gay porn or have legitimate guy crushes/affairs will likely just state I'm straight when in reality they're somewhere between a 2 or a 3 on the scale (society sees such people as normal).

hes just harmlessly asking whos gay in the community, there is nothing wrong with that, if you don't like to be labeled then don't make a response, but for people who don't mind or even people who think it might be easier to come out if they come out on a less-important place like a forum where no one knows you first, it might be of use then
