I want this game. Would anyone be willing to get in on a 4 pack with me? Ends up being $5 less per person.

EDIT: I got the game :)

I really liked Torchlight, but I also realized that it was because it was basically a Diablo clone and I had burned out on/Diablo 2 had died. With Diablo 3 coming out and then Torchlight 2 coming out shortly after, Diablo 3 seems to be the obvious choice as they are essentially the same game.

Are there any clear differences that make Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2 the obvious choice? Im on the fence on both of these games but I'm not so sure on dropping $60 on a game where I can pay $20 and get the same experience with some friends.

if they are essentially the same game then why play d3? It has all the shit people hate like insane DRM, paid ingame shop, no offline sp, ect. Meanwhile torchlight has none of them, and is a third the price. And it's made by an awesome dev.

kapoww you play torchlight 2 with me or i'll hate you forever.

Playerbase will be way larger with D3, D3 will have longer lasting support etc. Dont get me wrong I like torchlight alot, But Torchlight II was supposed to come out 5-6 months ago, Now they're gonna be fighting with Diablo 3, instead of people buying it to hold them over until d3 comes out. imo

Crumpet, are you implying that Torchlight isn't like Diablo or that Torchlight is better than Diablo?

Lets face it, it's a Diablo clone, but I'm only saying Diablo is the "obvious choice" because of what method said. The playerbase on D3 is going to be MUCH larger, which means that it will be continually updated and supported for much longer.

If you're looking for a single player experience (I never played D2 for the single player, personally), Torchlight is definitely the better alternative because of the price.

I don't really see why the size of the playerbase matters because both of these games are ten times as fun if you're playing with your bros.

Ya, plus Torchlight 2 has multiplayer mod support, LAN, a lot of the original people who actually made Diablo (none of these people work at Blizzard anymore), the same guy who made the fantastic music in D1+D2, etc.

Not that D3 is bad, but they're both very good games, T2 looks gr8 cause they added multiplayer so yay.

I'll break it down into points, you pick out which is incorrect or opinionated.

1. Diablo came before Torchlight.
2. Diablo and Torchlight are VERY similar, nearly identical in game mechanics.
3. Diablo 3 is going to have a larger playerbase than Torchlight 2, which will probably encourage sustained updates and patches. Read: Dead games don't get updated.
4. Torchlight 2 is cheaper than Diablo 3.

I can see how the third point could be opinionated, especially the second part of it. But if you think Torchlight 2 is going to have more players than Diablo 3 I'm willing to take a bet on that.

What'd I miss?

-D3 is made by the corpse known as ActivisionBlizzard

all the good things you have to say about D3 rely on some future updates that don't exist, but if you want to see Blizzard's track record with future content, take a look at World of Warcraft for a second.
It isn't pretty.

A lot of the people who made Diablo 1 + 2 work at Runic now. The main ones who didn't join up with them went to make Hellgate London & Mythos.

The only advantages TL2 has over D3 is the ability to play offline, LAN, and the cheaper price tag. Literally everything else is completely blown out of the water by D3.
Not stopping those who'd like to play TL2, but I'd like to point out that they really aren't the same game. Only the same vague concept.

Oh, and Matt Ulemen. lol

You forgot mods. Which is actually kind of a big deal, there was some really good stuff for Torchlight that could make it nearly an entirely different feel of game.

Diablo 3 took out the talent tree, so basically every level 50 monk has the same exact skills. Assuming Torchlight kept the talent sheet I am all for getting torchlight instead.
