Hi everyone, this is my team's first season and as such, we're a little confused as to what's going on with our match scheduling. I didn't want to bug Kalkin or Killing (nor incur any possible wrath), and I also don't want to sound like an ass, but our team is scheduled to play 2 dead teams in a row on gravel pit, which is a map we are all looking forward to learning and playing. I feel like we paid to play in ESEA matches not get forfeit wins, and I don't understand why dead teams can't be taken out of the schedule. Honestly, we came into this season not giving a fuck if we won or lost, we just want to learn, get better, play tf2 and have fun. It kind of irks me that we have to skip gravelpit entirely and won't get to play on it.

I'm not really sure what is going on, but I wanted to raise attention to the experience of some of the bottom teams in Open that are full of new 6v6 players that want to stick with this competitive e-sport and grow the community.

If it allows us, we can do 3vs6. Depending if the other 2 want to play :C. Sorry mate I'm not even the original leader of the team, the original leader pretty much quit TF2. There's always scrims though.
But I really do apologize that it ended up this way for you and your team, I was trying to maybe get a few players but it was a failure :C. Good luck on the rest of the season in your real matches.

Thanks so much for posting! I honestly don't blame the teams at all, but I just think the scheduling system seems a bit off if this happens to such a great degree. You'd have to play 5v6 and we wouldn't want that :p

If I knew double team I could possibly count as 2 people so it'd be 5. If only...

Yeah, it's a bit silly. 2/5 of our wins are going to be legitimate.

If anybody has any suggestions for incentives for keeping teams together, I'd be more than happy to hear them.

maybe give all open teams who stick together a full season a free month of premium? or something to that effect.

I'd say that when someone becomes a leader of a roster, include in whatever guide/help/message a little thing about how to mark a team dead. Also, teams with less than 6 on a roster shouldn't be matched up IMO.

Also, having a Main division would be cool. Even if it was like, only teams in Main have a shot at going to IM, and people could choose what division to be in, we'd probably pick Open > Main. Another way would be to look at the total number of seasons of experience a team has and then decide their status based on that.

I think a lot of teams fell apart because they just got rolled hard and things were getting rough losing all those matches. I know that was a factor for my team's regrettable roster changes.

My team has to go up against 2 "Dead" teams on Process week. I would really have liked to play on that map but matching active teams up with dead teams is a waste of money for me and it makes me not want to pay/play ESEA anymore :/ .

any team that stays alive in open (and doesnt make playoffs) for the entire season without ffl'ing more than twice has league fees paid for next season of open for their starting 6

2 seasons with 4 or less ffl's total (and not making playoffs) gets league fees+3 months freemium for their teams third season

most of the top open teams aren't the ones dying, although some do but that's a lot more rare than a team folding because they get disheartened by going 0-4 or 1-5 or something to start the season. this way, those low open teams that feel like they're paying to get assraped will get to play esea for cheaper the next season, and free the season after that. also, any team that can't make open playoffs after 2 seasons yet stick together and persevere deserves freemium+league fees for having the heart of a CHAMPION

if you guys plan on playing next season (even if its not on the same team) DO NOT DIE THIS SEASON. you'll learn so much playing teams that are better than you and you'll realize how much faster the game gets as you play better teams. set goals like getting 1 round or getting a med pick every mid or something like that. also, just have fun with it. it is a video game, after all.

Yeah, that was (I'm sure) most of our intended plans for Season 11 was to start out new and have fun with the game while learning, but my team didn't play anything on Warmfront and Process either, and apparently an upcoming team for Badlands is also presumably dead. For teams who start off with a few losses into the season, we end up playing even more inactive teams, so I feel like we kinda just paid money for scrimms which is a waste.

If you are on a new open team ESEA is a joke. The first half of the season is getting owned so bad that when they pair you against people your level those teams are already dead. No wonder a lot of teams are dead, the experience of being in ESEA is shit for new players

TL;DR

Pay money get nothing

Exactly, so dead teams should at least be removed so the lower level teams can actually play matches.

Make ESEA O/IM/Invite Participant Medals and 1st/2nd/3rd place medals for ESEA just like how UGC does with HL. Only give out the participant medals to teams that make it thorough the season without dieing.

People love free items.

ESEA-Open needs to be split up into 2-3 sections. As much as I want to blame the teams for dying and not resolving differences (whether by cutting people or talking it out), a massive problem still exists in that the bottom half of open and the top half of open play on vastly different levels.

ETF2L has about 4 full divisions that span what we call "open". ETF2L went one division (maybe 2) too many, but there's a damn good reason they did what they did. We have teams with 3-4 ex-invite players going against green ex-pubbers.

I would imagine this will happen in any league for any game if you are at the bottom of your division

Not really, the worst teams in IM and Invite still get to play 95% of games

The problem ends up being a bit different in IM. At worst teams will play like 75% of their games, but it ends up working out such that ffw's are not spread evenly thru the division and some teams get half their wins thru ffw's, and some even make playoffs because of it over teams who had less ffw's.

So instead of missing games during reg season, they miss games in playoffs because of dying teams who some teams got scheduled against more than others.

1) We weren't that far from the bottom of our division. There are like 5 teams we scrimmed against and had good games that we never played in matches, and I know we are ranked higher/better than like 5 more teams that we aren't getting scheduled against. We could've easily had a good schedule this season but instead we get rolled and FFWs with like 4-6 decent matches that we can even learn from.

2) The problem is that we don't get better at matches unless we play matches. We can scrim all day, but for brand new players, matches are intimidating and our team plays differently in scrims and matches for sure.
