As games grow older, sponsors lose interest in them. I'm not sure what dropping their CS squad four months ago has to do with TF2. |

#2 I tend to agree, CS dying a slow death money/sponsorship/interest-wise has little to do with TF2 also been deemed uneconomical. Plus the EG.TF2 team was kind of spotty towards the end of their run... |

What he said. And what sponsors really want are players who will actually promote them, not people who will just wear their tag. See EG's SC2 squad. Every interview, you'll hear them giving shout outs to their sponsors. Their streams have overlays with all their sponsors. If you watch SC2, you know that EG is sponsored by Intel, SteelSeries, Monster, Kingston HyperX, etc. because of this. It was also pointed out, on DJWheat's "Live On Three", that you will often ask the question "Who the hell is their sponsor?" when you see organizations that are not EG because they do not promote their sponsors like EG players do. Only time I've seen this in TF2 was vhalin and someone else (forgot who, sorry) with their ThermalTake headphones over their necks in a picture with the ESEA trophy. Also, not that many people watch TF2. Try not to think of this just as "sucking up to your sponsors". It's a step that we need to take if we want to promote TF2 within competitive gaming organizations. I'm pretty sure if they notice us with this behavior, they will show more interest in TF2. Also, I think this type of stuff can be done to promote competitive TF2 within non-competitive communities. It's what we want, right? Wear full tags if you are sponsored. If you're pubstomping with a name like "Leviathan Gaming | Basikosaur" (ya it fits), I'm sure people will be like "Holy shit that guys good. I wonder what Leviathan Gaming is? Gonna google it." unlike "LG | Basikosaur". Or they will at least maybe they will ask you questions that will maybe eventually lead you to introducing them to competitive TF2. You'd be surprised at how much little stuff like this matters. Edit : Can someone who knows more about sponsorships make a thread about this type of stuff? I think we need one. TF2 is a niche game and it always will be. The community will never be large enough for a major sponsor to want to support a team. As Scoots said when EG dropped TF2, they get more exposure from a blog about iNcontrol going to Korea than they did for anything and everything TF2 related. |

I think the problem with TF2 is the only people who take interest in the comp scene is the comp community itself, which is small obviously. I'm going to presume all those people watching starcraft streams aren't pro's. If you some how got pubbers to watch comp games the scene could become huge. |

Ya. Pretty much. We need the pubbers that are fascinated by 6v6 frag videos, not the average ones who just pub with no goals. |
