Greatest anti-climax in esports history (well, at least SC2 history) is SC:BW pros playing televised SC2 for the first time this weekend and surprise, surprise, not being very good. Obviously there are perfectly understandable reasons but it did serve as a pretty good wake up call to all the BW-worshiping idiots on TL/reddit who believed that any A-team BW pro would instantly win GSL the second they installed SC2.exe. Everyone should google and read "The Elephant in the room" article on team liquid, funny stuff.

you're really, really stupid if you understood the elephant in the room to mean bw players would instantly dominate sc2. you're even dumber if you think they won't dominate sc2 with time.

The elephant in the room article was about how the SC2 scene at the time was a farce, based on the premise that the people successful at the time (such as MC) were all shit at SC:BW/had inconsequential BW careers. I don't disagree with the latter statement, it is the former that is logically flawed. You can not judge two games (and yes, SC2 and BW are different enough to be considered separate games) solely by the relative performance of individuals in them. You completely discount the possibility that said players peaked only after they moved onto SC2 or felt more comfortable with SC2 mechanics.

I have read the article, it is a year old and served as the focal point of the SC2 players are shit compared to BW circlejerk, much like Quake 4 pros are shit compared to Quake 3 pros and Quake 3 pros are shit compared to the CPMA pros circlejerks etc. It is a very common tendency to dismiss the skill of pros in a newer iteration of the game and terrible articles like these play to these exact sentiments. Nowhere did I state that the BW players would instantly dominate view was mentioned directly in the article. I mentioned it because it is the exact example of the sort of retarded thinking that tends to dominate gaming communities whenever the old vs new idea comes up, never mind the fact that the comparison itself is stupid. Have you read the article? Or for that matter, my post? Or did you just feel compelled to call me stupid because you lack basic reading comprehension skills. No where did I say that some BW pros would not have success in SC2 in the long run, it was more about seeing people considered as Gods in BW make silly mistakes in their first appearance playing SC2 and not show any revolutionary style of play, as they were expected to.

Assuming that all BW pros switch to SC2, I am sure some of them (especially like Flash, Jaedong and others) will rise to the very top. But (and here is my prediction, feel free to comment on that) they will not comprehensively outclass or walk over any of the players who are currently at the top of the SC2 scene. Even if you proceed with the assumption that they are massively more skilled than them (not an unreasonable one at all), current SC2 pros have a sizable head start which should see them out to the rest of SC2's mainstream global competitive cycle (~10 years more). And then, you'd be assuming that BW pros, who've already dedicated almost 10 years of their life to one game, will do so for another game for another 10 years or more. As much fun as it sounds, playing video games competitively for two decades can get a bit strenuous.

It's all cool to minus frag and move on, maybe even call people really really stupid without trying to first read what they have written or understand a reference, but do me favor; think first and then post. This would be a whole nicer place if everyone did.

I should go back to watch some more sc2. I still remember that first game when squirtle came out on GSTL and took out MVP himself when he was unbeatable on an amazing 30 minute long game.

But if you want great esports momments, just watch any VOD from a prime savior game.
