There is a big LAN coming up in England, called Insomnia 46, August 24-26th approximately. As it is the Summer edition of Insomnia (last one i43, this one i46), it is going to be huge. Predicted to be the biggest TF2 LAN in history. There are currently >30 teams signed up with 3 months to go.

Ever since i43 was so big, people have been clamouring for an international element. Get some of you lot over and settle the Euro vs Yank dispute once and for all. But it's been 9 months since then and there hasn't been a whole lot more evident than just talk.

There would be a lot of money needed for even six players and if that is to come from the community then we need more definition and transparency because i46 is really not very far off. Tempus fugit and all that.

So..

What we need

• ESEA-I players who are interested in attending: Something that there hasn't been a lot of indication of.

• ESEA-I players who are capable of funding/partly funding themselves to England: Your own Texas LAN finals are already a big monetary drain, so this seems like another big obstacle.

• Realistic expectations: This is an amateur game with amateur money behind it. Don't expect luxury. Multiplay might give you some freebies for tickets or PC rental, but expense has to be shaved where possible. That means camping, it means 3 days on instant noodles, it means cajoling free local-PBR from generously drunk Brits.

The turnout for last summer's i43.

What you get

• A great experience. The Summer Insomnia editions have been the highlight of the European TF2 calendar for quite some time, and have a strong community sense about them. Video evidence: Insomnia 43

• e-fame? The chance to represent your country internationally at a large eSport event.

• Some prize money? Okay don't set your sights too high.

All the rules can be found on the http://www.multiplay.co.uk site

Though that said, if we said no does it mean you would want to come over? May I suggest that we stay on topic and actually gauge the general interest of people looking to attend the event.

A couple of the eXtv guys who plan on going are looking to chat with some of the invite teams this week if not today.

Search engine marketer here. Free advice: if you want to make ANY purchasing decision, do as much of your research as possible in 'incognito mode' for unbiased research. Otherwise, you will be served and funneled to what ecommerce-type sellers want to sell you, which could include higher prices.

Who knows if this is legit, but it's as simple as clicking Incognito mode on Chrome.

Birmingham International (BHX). But there are people travelling by car to the LAN from all over the UK, so one could probably get a free lift from someone in the community if there was another airport that was significantly cheaper.

Rightly said by atmo, you will find connections into London will be cheaper as there is more competition and most airlines won't fly direct into BHX.

I highly recommend looking at flights into London airports first

I fly to london from boston many times a year, and the tickets usually range from 700-800 usd, and I believe its one of the closest ports to europe so that should give anyone a reference point . However the summer olympics might make it expensive unless it happens right outside. Food is expensive there.

London 2012 finishes August 12th, two weeks before i46, so hopefully any ticket inflation from the Olympics will have come back down by then. But it will still be Holiday/Vacation season so tickets will still be pretty high.

The Olympics could potentially bump tickets up but the closing date is scheduled for 12th August.

Can open or intermediate players attend? If you expect a decent turnout from North Americans to a European LAN on relatively short notice (and for a pricey, passport-required trip across the pond, a few months is not long in advance) you need to be inclusive. Especially when many invite players might already be burning their sick days and extra summer cash on the ESEA LAN.

The Insomnia LAN is open to attendees of all levels, but I specified ESEA-I players as they are more likely to receive funding (partial or total) from the community than less-well-known IM/Open players.

I think the main money issue to be focussed on is the flights. Accommodation, food, PCs, local transport are minor concerns in comparison.

mmm yes.

We talked about it this morning at the eXtv staff meeting. There are other individuals working towards this goal as well.

What's really important right now is collating lists of teams/players that CAN possibly attend: Passports and availability. We'll be reaching out to some people, but we also love people reaching out to us.

you can get accomodation for £20 a night or buy a tent for £10 and sleep in that. I think you are greatly over estimating the cost.

This is gonna be hard, since there's already a srsly br0 donation. I think Valve should really support us NOW to compensate considering European Competitive TF2 and American Competitive TF2 really kept this game going and gave it more meaning. Probably help get some people to i46 so we can truly make i46 the best LAN yet. Valve pls

I think everyone here can agree that the last thing we should rely on to do something is Valve

nope, the plane ticket costs about 1000$ and if you take into account transportation + hotel + food it comes down to about $1200

Wow 1.2k per player, rough deal, it's something Quantic has always wanted to do. I've tried proposing time and time again to my sponsor (emg/quantic), and it gets denied every time. Just doesn't seem likely because there isn't enough exposure, or roi. If there is some way we can partial funding (90% lol), our team would love to go. Seeing as our team has only cyzer and I really working full time, its tough.

flow has been interested too. i think most top teams in NA want to represent the scene abroad just money is always a huge issue. interested to see in what comes of this.

#23 Valve was approached about i46 by me, directly representing other people involved with this effort and indirectly representing the community, a year ago.

We need to step up and make this happen on our own, Valve's not going to pick up the tab.

#23 Valve isn't going to support this, this game is not even 1% as popular as Dota is, and Dota is to date the only game Valve has bothered to pick up the tab for a ton of people to make something happen.

It really isn't in their best interest as a company, the RoI is very very very low.
