I'm currently updating m0rehud. Actually, it didn't require much updating after Valve released the update that caused the gamemenu.res and mainmenuoverride.res files to crash hl2.exe - which they then fixed...

Anyway, for those who don't know; the domain for m0rehuds website has been down for several weeks and hasn't been updated (to my knowledge) in a few months.

I have a working version with a few of my own modificatons, including a simple hud xhair, last damage done centered under xhair, etc...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6s13iekfoppfuho/noM0arHUD.png

If you own a copy of m0re's and would like this one, let me know and I'll link you. I'm in the processing of making several more changes to this hud, but the original feel and look will remain.

I love m0reshud and I think it's by far the best hud out there and I do not understand why it isn't used by more players.

As of the update that crashed a lot of huds, I began using garm3nhud. It is indeed a neat hud, and it's become quite popular, but over time I began to miss m0rehud because it is simple, clean, and perfect. There are many things about garm3n that are "neat" and by anyones judgment would be considered "good," but honestly I think many of the fonts and colors and various elements of garm3n are simply excessive and impractical.

Hopefully this is not a completely retarded post.
Thanks

What is there to update with m0re hud? It still works fine for me, minus the game menu. Haven't tried that since the last update.

Went from m0rehud to KNHud, and while KNHud is nice, wouldn't mind an updated m0re hud, I would love if you released this.

Actually I believe that the original gamemenu and override files are the ones I had in my backups, so they should work just fine.

The above link contains my most current working versions the resource and scripts folders. My resolution is 1440x900, and everything is pretty much set, but you might need to change some things for your resolution if it's bigger (I hope you have a bigger screen than I do D:)

I'm still making changes to the HUD though.

I would like to pimp this hud out enough so that I could justify a "release" of my own hud. I know that typically, most custom HUDs out there were compiled based off the design of another HUD. I feel like what I have now in this hud is far too similar to m0res hud and would feel lame if I tried to release it as something of my own. However, if I made something worth a second glance, and people were into it, I think that would be cool as I've always wanted to release my own hud but I sux at creativity :(

That said, any ideas that you guys have regarding ways to improve this hud to your liking, please let me know and I'd be glad to give it a try for you.

I already have at least 3 hud xhairs in here, and they came with the original hudlayout.res which, btw, makes more sense to me than having to go to my hudhealthaccount.res to modify my xhair - something completely unrelated to health. Not that it matters, that just bugs me :p

However, I am familiar with those xhairs you speak of; I'd like you, or anyone in here - if you don't mind, to answer a few questions:

What is the advantage of a pulsing xhair?
Why is it advantageous to have your xhair change color from your desired color to another color that matches your health values color when it goes red - when you're hurt?
This vaguely reminds me of the stabby stabby script that changes colors according to which movement key you press. I honestly do not understand what the actual benefit of this is. It just seems gimmicky. Moreover - a few of the reasons I initially chose a hud xhair:

for the simple fact that I have a [truly] centered cross hair that sticks to my hud

is two-toned, and therefore it does not require additional color or cross hair to be switched in order to avoid blending in to any background/color/texture.

So, to summarize that, for me, it feels like using pulsing xhairs is counter intuitive to the minimal, pragmatic value that I seek as a player who prefers a hud-xhair.

Furthermore, I am a die-hard fan of m0rehud, which is also [IMHO] a minimal, pragmatic HUD.

There is my question, and my reason for asking. Obviously I am inherently not fond of the pulsing xhairs, but I honestly want to know if there is some kind of value that eluded me in my experience with them. No joke, i'm not being a smartass or trying to start an internet pissing context, my curiosity is genuine.

This reminds me of...I think pvhud. Health + ammo very small and close to the crosshair. However, that style to me is way too close to the crosshair. I do think that has a very slick look to it. I like the font for health and that it turns blue when overhealed along with the health cross. I would be down to try it out just because I like to try new things, but for huds, I always go back to the nice clean yet huge - yet perfectly placed and readable fonts in m0rehud. :)

sizing of things mainly and some slight position adjustments, think i changed colors of some things? (just look at the modification dates to see what has been touched. honestly dont recall everything i tweaked)

did this a long ass time ago (when tragics shit hud went obsolete) and haven't taken the time to start changing all the colors like grapes =[, which was planned when i started.

love the simplicity of the hud though

on a side note: grape nice vid xD (how do you never press tab?)

The reason I enjoy a pulsing xhair is that while aiming I tend to focus extra on my crosshair, and having it change colors let's me know sooner i've taken damage. It's really just preference though, and if you don add it, I'd likely just make it work for myself.

I see. I apologize in advance if I seem to infer that you don't know what you're doing, but I'd like to know if you've ever asked yourself - do you truly use your crosshair to aim?
Or perhaps less extreme - have you considered the possibility that focusing on your crosshair that much would distract you from your target - make you take more damage - make you not notice your damage - making the pulsing xhair more like a parasite than an enhancement.
Once again, I have no idea who you are or your experience or knowledge of this game/huds. However, this is something that I think is more common than one would typically imagine.

I tend to agree that having an appropriate HUD that makes your health easily visible with BOTH direct and peripheral vision.

m0rehud, for me at least, is perfect for that. The health value is easily visible no matter where I'm looking on the screen, and it's even easier to see when i'm overhealed - as the health cross gets bigger. But then again, like you said, it usually all comes down to preference. My HUD preferences primarily follow my notions of what I think I should be focused on within the GAME - the hud is just a necessary evil to help me monitor information related to the game, and -nothing- else, as the ultimate focus is directed far beyond your hud elements - see: "big picture." Therefore - the less I have to take my eyes away from anything, or look at anything like a crosshair - the better.

I really wish that m0ar people would use this hud, because if they did, I think their perception of how HUD elements effect your overall focus would perhaps change some.

I think i'm going to try the pulsing crosshairs again just to see if I can get them adjusted to my liking. Thanks for your input.

You should try and see what else you can do with crosshair colour changing.

You could do more hit indicating but see what else you can do.
