Long story short, my desktop has multiple pieces that need to be replaced and I plan on just getting a new computer all together, but in the mean time to play I have to use my dell xps m1530, which so far with chis' maxframes barely gets past 60fps. Is there anything that can give me a bigger boost to my fps?

Agreed with hooli, your best bet is to disable all the fancy effects that come with Windows 7 and to close all excess programs. If you don't want to do that yourself, you can try Game Booster [http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html], which will show you all the programs that can be closed, free up memory, disable Aero, and really anything else that could possibly give you a few more frames. |

i dont know if its useful for the fps ,but you can try using LOD with ati tray tools (if u have ati ,hur) or the geforce SLI profile (if you have nvidia, dur) here is a guide made by an argentinian buddy ,so its in spanish
should look like this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St7zQ-N5F6k&list=UUqjE8ZC5SWiHMhQ8OamI1QQ&index=9&feature=plcp

mat_showlowresimage 1 edit: it's now cheat protected, you could try sv_cheats1;mat_showlowresimage 1;sv_cheats 0 in your main menu, but it probably won't work Last edited: Wed, 13 Jun 2012, 10:13pm by whackO male at birth,

I play on 640x480 and also try doing what is in this link, as it made my TF2 play a lot smoother, and it is essentially unplayable without.
Resolution will definitely have the bigger impact though. |

valve made it cheat protected a little while back i guess, not even really worth the trouble of using the command. if you really want good fps, overclock, it's the only easy way male at birth,

M0res high fps config. Its even more geared toward max frames than max frames. http://clugu.com/tf2mate/ just download the configs with that selected then copy paste the high fps part from the autoexec to your autoexec. Also another nod to game booster, it subtly does a lot. |

Have you actually tested it? If so, how big of a difference is it? |

I just tested it, didn't see that big of a increase in fps. Maybe 10 at max, but it was too inconsistent to get a good number. |

640x480 makes a boat load of difference. I tinkered with a shitty computer I bought my brother in order to let him play TF2. I can assure you chris maxframes plus 640x480 will do the trick. Text becomes slightly unreadable and the shop doesn't work but oh well. I know generally changing your resolution doesn't do too much but when you go THIS low I promise it will. <grav`Few> You just put up a peice of content that was not nuetral

Try using Prio or Process Lasso to set the cpu priority of hl2.exe to "Above Normal." It gets me 10-20 more frames and generally helps with stability. Do not set it to "high" though. |
