after playing around in ultiduo, I realized people should play it more :o

what do people think about a ladder system that kept track of teams' ranking compared to other teams? Instead of waiting around for random tournaments throughout the year I feel like people should be able to play competitively whenever.

throw down some thoughts or suggestions

edit: if you're willing to take on helping this project please say so!

I'd also love to see some alternate ultiduo maps. It's a nice map but it has its share of flaws.

Figure I should also elaborate on what I was imagining

The ladder is based off wins/losses vs players of varying skill (similar to MGE ranking)

Also to avoid challenges from across ladder there should be a limit to how many ladder rankings up or down a team is allowed to challenge. This way low tier teams aren't challenging top tier teams.

The ladder, teams (unique steam IDs), servers, and matchmaking could all be managed from a website (or ideally a plugin for natf2!!)

Blackymonster and I also discussed the possibility of leagues within the ladder if it was popular enough - similar to starcraft's ladder system: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, masters

I think ultiduo has an amazing potential because it's so easy to organize, but also it's appeal to nearly every* player in the tf2 community.

Do it. Ultiduo ladder casting would be awesome.

Oh and make sure replays are easily downloaded or stored or whatever.

The issue with the rating/ladder in MGE though is, since you can chose your opponents, you can pad your stats by only playing people you know you are better than. Rating only really works when your opponents are selected at random (the matchmaking you mentioned). Unless its extremely popular I don't think people would want to sit in a long queue/matchmaking just to play ultiduo. after I'm definetly in favor of more people playing ultiduo to begin with though, it's really fun :D

It should just be added into the mgemod servers

A website similar to tf2lobby would give ultiduo more exposure and would be a lot more accessible than IRC. I think setting it up that way would probably be best. You would also be able to specify a server and stuff. People shouldn't be waiting that long to find a match since it takes only 4 people anyways.

If I can help in any way, I'd like to.

ultiduo in MGE would be amazing, but it counters MGE's scoring method.

The best part about ultiduo is that medic is actually fun so you don't need to get a "medic," you just have to find a friend willing to play with you.

Also, if we could get in contact with someone who manages TF2Lobby, a simple option to run an ultiduo lobby would be amazing. It wouldn't have stats, but boy would it be fun.

Yeah just get a friend to be your ultiduo buddy and take turns on both classes.

So the way Starcraft's built-in matchmaking for 2v2 works is that you can either choose a random partner or be in a party that plays on a team. This ought to be how the ultiduo matchmaking works too, so people who complain about not knowing meds can still find one.

Almost every time Ive asked people to play med in ultiduo they were okay with it. Some agreed to switch off each round. I dont think finding a med should be much of a problem because I and I'm sure other people as well think that med is actually fun in ultiduo.

Ladders aren't elo. Ladders are ranked yeah, but if you're like say number 30 you can challenge up to 27-33.

Lets say you challenge 33 or get challenged by them. Winning does nothing to your rank but losing negates them from rechallenging you until they win/change positions. Losing causes you to swap player positions with them.
You can't rise unless you beat someone ranked better.

Although I suppose people will become scared when they see good teams challenging them but I'm fairly certain you can make rules for consistent decliners (like you can only decline twice before having to accept the next one).

I really hate the ladder mechanic that you literally swap places when you win/lose. Why not just place the winner in the loser's slot and slide everyone in between (loser included) down a #? The GG2 clans community decided on doing that (instead of a complicated rating system or a swapping ladder) because they didn't like the idea of bad luck ruining someone's position and forcing them to play twice in a row (once after the loss) just to keep their general level in the ladder.

So, with this ladder system does a person only get 1 team or are they allowed to join multiple teams and fuck the ladder system up? I would personally like to see a ranked system of wins:losses per player for both classes rather than team, so I don't have to play with smarf 24/7.

esea allows 1 roster join per 7 day period, would make sense for this too.

the teams could be 4 man rosters, 2 soldiers, 2 medics? or 3 man with 2 starters and a backup?

mge_training_v8?
- No "Directs/No Splash" arena (no one uses that shit, just play ammomod)
- Added ultiduo arena
- Unlock medic (who cares if people want to use it in regular arenas, they will just get stuffed)
- Ultiduo arena has no stats and caps at 4 players instead of 2
- Forces 1 medic 1 soldier similar to how bball forces only soldier
- :D

I played against/with ghos7ayama on it and when it wasn't kritz spawncamping (had bad timers everywhere, fixed them now though) it was pretty fun, more than I had on ultiduo.

I think a lot of the arena maps could be converted into ultiduo pretty easily, like ravine or granary or something

The spawn times were the same as stock valve koth. It was awful. The point capped so slow too. After that testing I just copied ultiduo's values for everything because it's supposed to be the most balanced.
