if you're backup, can you randomly be chosen as either class or do you get asked when spots open up so you can be more picky?

Backups are basically just going to be a pool of players who other teams can pull from if their teammate is a no show, which is an expected issue with (some) random teams. We're leaning towards a system where if a backup fills in for someone once, they take that person's spot for the rest of the tournament.

Replacing someone is completely up to you - I expect most people will only fill in for their preferred class.

Edit: Also, there is just one medic spot left and then the tournament will be full! And everyone please remember to join the steam group.

I see no reason why you can't, as long as your teammate agrees.

We don't have one planned, but I don't see why we couldn't. You still can probably play - join the steam group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/rugc_ultiduo) and you'll have a chance to fill in for players who don't show up during the first round of games.
