Not really. From what I've seen (as a pubbie), a growing amount of "pubbies" are interested in watching and playing competitive TF2. They usually don't, because they don't know where to go, but I wouldn't say a majority consider competitive players assholes for playing comp.
Now, they do consider most players in TF2lobby to be assholes, but that's because a lot of players in TF2lobby are assholes.
