The overlay doesn't show up at all.

-nod3d9ex is NOT an option. The overlay works with it but it still slows down alt-tabing and alt-tabing/reconnecting causes graphical glitches (it causes invisible players if anyone else wants to know).

-dxlevel 81 not an option eiter. Works with it as well but alt-tabing is slowed down even worse.

windows aero extensions is turned OFF however even when I turn it back on it seems to stay off in the options even after restart. There isn't a command that controls that option either AFAIK.

i'm about to just reinstall TF2 if I don't get it fixed by tonight.

It doesn't work in TF2 either for me, same for me and my friends. We assumed it was the Pyromania Update.

Does reinstalling TF2 actually fix it? If so that's really easy and I'd do it as well.

I'll tell if it does anything tommorow cause i'll have to download it overnight. I made a topic about it on mumble's support forum. Voice your concerns if your having the same trouble here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mumble/forums/forum/492607/topic/5411555 (you have to register tho).

Why not just make a backup of it while you have it installed? It saves a lot of time and bandwidth. Steam's backup feature is highly underused. I backup TF2 every single update and then delete the old backup. Ty Valve.

The idea is just to start fresh from a default TF2 client with no steam cloud or anything. If I just backed it up and restored nothing would change.

Lol yes it would be fresh. It doesn't backup your personal files, just the install files.

By "messed with the overlay" what do you mean? What did you mess around with? I've already tried reinstalling and redownloading the mumble client twice.

moved mine a shit ton before launching tf2 and while running tf2. Nothing happened. Tried flipping the FPS counter on and off as well as just turning the whole overlay on and off. All the fiddling in the world didn't do anything.

You aren't alone.

My mumble overlay stopped working like 1.5 years ago after the major 1.2.x update or whatever update that was.

I have to launch mumble before I launch steam to get overlay to work. Did you try that?

If there's an option, then there's a command for it.

Anyways, manually setting my dxlevel to 98 in the windows registry seemed to solve the problem for me. My aero extensions are disabled anyway. It was on 95 (showed up as DirectX 9.0+ in TF2) before. Make sure that if your overlay is on whitelist mode, hl2.exe is added, or that you switch back to blacklist. Also, I'm using an alpha build of mumble.

EDIT: The option seems to set these cvars, but I'm not /totally/ sure it changes the DSP one. I know it changes the other two, though, and the d3d9ex option seems to be the main one.
dsp_slow_cpu 0
mat_disable_d3d9ex 0
mat_hdr_level 2
If you're having issues with alt/tabbing and d3d9ex, you should use borderless windowed mode instead, but keep in mind that if you do you'll have to disable Windows Aero unless you have an nvidia card to force its vsync off for you. (AMD cards can't disable vsync at the driver level)

I use DX8 and have to keep the game in fullscreen for "mat_monitorgamma" to work.
"dsp_slow_cpu" does something with sound i don't know exactly, but it's part of chris's config.

"mat_hdr_level" is just for high dynamic range

and if I put mat_disable_d3d9ex 1 into my autoexec it doesn't get the overlay to work even though -nod3d9ex still does. 0 value turns aero extensions on and 1 turns off.

Where can I download Mumble 1.2.4?

I'm not sure how to say this without sounding mean but that quote was supposed to explain that it's not out yet. They are in the process of developing it.

if I gave you a download you would have to deal with alpha quality instability, especially because they're reworking the overlay for performance reasons.

The link to the latest Mumble developer snapshot is here: http://mumble.info/snapshot/mumble-1.2.3-361-ga2a3836.msi

I just tested it, and the overlay still doesn't work unfortunately.
